Solar Rebates and Incentives Available in Tasmania: A Quick Summary

The incentives for solar in Tasmania in 2026 are federal, and both come off the quote up front:

• The STC rebate (Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme) discounts solar panel systems, and also heat pump and solar hot water. Tasmania is in STC Zone 4. The discount depends on system size and gets smaller every 1 January until the scheme ends in 2030.
• The Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible home batteries connected to solar, new or existing. It has run since 1 July 2025 and steps down every six months.

Two other things are worth knowing:

• There is no Tasmanian state solar or battery rebate. The state’s interest-free Energy Saver Loan Scheme has closed to new applications.
• The feed-in tariff is a credit, not a rebate. The Tasmanian Economic Regulator sets a minimum of 9.276c/kWh for 2026–27, which retailers must offer eligible customers for exported solar.

Your installer normally claims the certificates and shows the discount as a line on your quote, so there is nothing to apply for yourself. Check that the installer is accredited with Solar Accreditation Australia and that the equipment is on the approved product lists.
